Sato Ribbon
Sato invented the first electronic bar code thermal transfer printer, and remains a giant in the labeling industry. All Sato ribbons provide durable label imaging, complete with crisp graphics and sharp text, and are specially coated to maximize print-head life. Sato ribbons come in three basic varieties: T101A Standard full wax ribbons for printing on paper and low-end synthetic label stocks; T110-A Premier I wax/resin ribbons for printing on both paper and a wider range of synthetics; and T435A Premier II resin ribbons, formulated for printing on smooth-surfaced synthetic media only. At Etiquette Systems, we're happy to offer all three types of Sato ribbon for sale.
The top-quality printing provided by Sato ribbons is a result of advanced thermal transfer technology. As the name implies, the process uses heat -- in this case from heated pins in the print-head -- to transfer the ink from the ribbon to the label. This is most inexpensively done using Sato ribbons coated with wax-based inks, which are especially useful for high-volume labeling operations; however, the wax in the inks compromises their ability to resist some solvents, and thus their durability is less than those of the wax/resin and full resin Sato ribbons. The latter are a must if you're dealing with a particularly harsh environment.
Given their durability, Sato ribbons are ideal for asset tracking and inventory control, not to mention the labeling of automotive parts, chemical drums, many horticultural products (particularly lumber), electronics, and other objects subject to high temperature changes and moderate to extreme physical shocks.
